Bhagavad Gita (10.35)
bṛihat-sāmatathāsāmnāṁgāyatrīchhandasāmaham māsānāṁmārga-śhīrṣho ’ham ṛitūnāṁkusumākaraḥ
Translation :
Of the hymns in the Sāma Veda I am the Bṛhat-sāma, and of poetry I am the Gāyatrī. Of months I am Mārgaśīrṣa and of seasons I am flower-bearing spring.
Wings to Heart

Every one of us has probably had the experience of listening to a particular song or a piece of music, having our eyes closed and feeling ourselves transported into another realm. Different types of music touch different people. But there is something about music that reaches us very deep inside. Music and spirituality are intricately related, with spirituality often being the inspiration for the creation of music, and music so often creating the desired atmosphere for a spiritualoccasion.
Spirituality through music has a very deep and direct connection
Music is an integral part of spirituality, of all world religions: Chanting, Singing, praying in the mood of song are fundamentals of so many worlds’ religions.
In Indian culture, the whole Sama Veda is dedicated to sounds and music .

Earlier. Shree Krishna had said that of the Vedas he is the Sāma Veda, which is rich with beautiful devotional songs. Now he says that within the Sāma Veda, he is the Brihatsama, which has an exquisite melody. It shows music as the language of soul and cure of the heart.
The Greatness of Indian Music:
Indian music is based on seven basic notes called swaras. The Swaras are not just random sounds; they are Swara Devathas, filled with power(Indian Heritage - Musings on Music, a handy music diary for writing notation by S.Rajam (saigan.com)). When they are sung in frequencies, they create impact on our soul and in the cosmos. They create beautiful vibrations when arranged in an order. We don’t have to know the lyrics or language, just the music makes us to cry, laugh, jump with joy, and feel happy or sad.

Practical impact of music in our lives:
Singing or playing instrument following few rules of Ragas is an uplifting experience. Practicing music has positive impact on mind, emotional health, education and improves personality.

Art of Singing is one among the 64 Transcendental Arts, because of the strong bond it creates with the Supreme personality of God Head.
